In August, Saudi Arabia’s crude oil exports rose to their highest level in seven months, supplying the market with approximately 6.45 million barrels per day. The country obtains such a huge income from this activity that it has just decided to sanctify this source of cash by creating THE RIG. Saudi Arabia, which holds about 17% of the world’s exposed oil reserves, has announced a new strategy in the past. Instead of giving up oil production, it intends to convert its oil rigs into more environmentally friendly ones. The country’s love of this business will take a tangible form, as Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, revealed by THE RIG, a 150,000 square meter holiday resort inspired by offshore oil rigs.

THE RIG is based on a traditional, undefined oil rig in the Persian Gulf, but adds three extensive hotels with a total of 800 rooms, 11 restaurants, a roller coaster, a slide, a Ferris wheel, bungee jumping equipment and diving equipment. It will also provide the opportunity to complete a boat, yacht or helicopter trip.

At the moment, the location is a mystery, as well as whether THE RIG will be built from scratch or will include the reconstruction of the current drilling platform. The opening is also a mystery, but THE RIG is part of Saudi Arabia’s fund strategy for 2021-2025.
