The capacities of this new model Micron 2210 SSD intended for the general public and companies range from 512 GB for the most basic model to 2 TB for the maximum capacity model, thus doubling the capacity compared to the previous 2200 series.
Micron turns to QLC after increasing its durability
This increase in capacity is given by the use of QLC instead of TLC which was used by the previous generation, since QLC has a higher density and therefore offers much greater capacity than TLC with 64 layers can offer (compared to the 96 layers which has QLC).
The kind of 512 GB It has a reading speed of 2200 MB / s, sequential readings of 1070 MB / s4K Random Read and Write Speeds 150K / 260K IOPS with a durability of 180 TBW.
The 1TB drive provides speeds of I / O 2200/1800 MB / s and 230k / 320k random speeds with write capacity of 360 TBW.
2TB range cap performs at I / O speeds of 2200/1800 MB / s with random speeds of 265K / 320K IOPS with a resistance of 720 TBW.
QLC offers increased capacity with some loss of performance
Compared to the previous generation, the Micron SSD 2200, these new NVMe SSDs with QLC see a loss of performance from 3000 MB / s to 2200 MB / s, which is a 36% less sequential read.
Refering to sequential writing the last generation reached up to 1600 MB / s and these new models reach 1800 MB / s, which implies a 12.5% increase. They have also seen increases in their random readings and writes by 10% and 52% respectively.
The greatest differences between both generations are found in the increase in their resistance. The half terabyte capacity model sees its TBW increased by 20%. The 1 TB model sees its TBW increased by 20% and the top of the range is unmatched with the previous generation since a model with 2 TB capacity was not available.
Micron has the best QLC flash with up to 80% more durability than the competition
They all come with a MTTF of 2 million hours. As for the advanced features, they have AES 256-bit encryption, protection against data loss when the power goes out, a temperature controller, a dynamic acceleration of writing, RAIN, S.M.A.R.T, TCG Opal 2.0 and Pyrite 2.0 technologies. The energy consumption is reduced by 2W compared to the previous generation for readings, leaving only 4W and in complete rest they are reduced by more than half.
They come with a proprietary software of the brand: Micron Storage Executive management tool, a very complete program that will allow us to see the status of the device to update its firmware. Its availability as well as its price is unknown, although due to the type of technology it uses, we should be talking about a fairly cheap cost per gigabyte.
