Mobile and Max-Q GeForce RTX models are conquering the market

As expected, Nvidia at CES announced not only the desktop RTX 2060, but also a whole series of mobile notebooks powered by both GeForce RTX cards and Max-Q variants. I am talking about the GeForce RTX 2080, GeForce RTX 2070 and GeForce RTX 2060 models.

According to the latest information, by the end of January, over 40 laptops in over one hundred configurations will hit the market. They will, of course, be driven by the blessings of the Turing architecture as part of the RTX cards, offering support for the latest Nvidia technologies (RTX and DLSS). The company traditionally boasts that its solutions are used by leading OEMs who work hard to bring ultra-thin and efficient items to the market. At the moment, however, we have only learned about the details of the three main models, and we are talking about the RTX 2080, RTX 2070 and RTX 2060. The former will of course be the most powerful, borrowing the best from its desktop brother.

I am talking about the same GPU configuration that offers 2944 CUDA cores and memory – 8 GB GDDR6 with a speed of 14 Gb / s on a 256-bit bus. However, the changes affected the clocks, which in the basic mobile version are to reach a base of 1380 MHz and 1590 MHz in boost mode with a TDP of over 150W. Max-Q variants will be more thermally efficient (80W), but limited to 735 MHz base and 1095 MHz “boosted” frequency. A similar procedure was used for the RTX 2070. Here, too, the focus was on transferring the TU106 core from the desktop version in all its glory (2340 CUDA cores) and combining it with 8 GB GDDR6 in the same configuration as above. In terms of clocks, we are talking about the base 1215 MHz and 1440 MHz boost (at TDP 115W), while the Max-Q will be driven respectively 885 MHz and 1185 MHz (TDP 80W).

The trio is completed by the mobile version of the barely announced GeForce RTX 2060. Again, the cuts to the desktop version rely solely on timing, as both the GPU and the memory configuration have not been changed. So far, however, we have only learned about the usual variant (not Max-Q), the clocks of which will be 960 MHz and 1200 MHz in boost mode. In the future, we should expect information about the mobile RTX 2080 Ti.
