This even applies to the energy sector, which in the case of many countries has become somewhat dependent on Russian raw materials, which are now being abandoned. Therefore, nuclear power plants in Belgium, instead of shutting down in 2025, will end their operation … well, when?
On Friday, Belgian authorities announced that their original plans to end nuclear power were delaying for another decade. All this to “strengthen the country’s independence from fossil fuels in a turbulent geopolitical environment.” Nowadays, it is difficult to underestimate the power of the atom in the energy sector, when in this application it is even to be put into military use.

At present, there are chances that Europe’s drive to source energy from renewable sources will slow down significantly, so a possible energy crisis will require controversial and, above all, quick decisions. Belgium has already taken them up as the first country in Europe, and instead of shutting down nuclear plants in 2025, it will shut them down in 2034 to meet current energy needs.
