Nvidia compares RTX laptops to PlayStation 4 Pro and next-gen consoles

Nvidia compares laptops using their cards to new consoles. How does the PlayStation 4 Pro compare to these devices?

Nvidia presented new laptops at CES 2019. All devices are equipped with a graphics card from the RTX series. What came as a surprise, however, was that the graphics card manufacturer began to compare the power of laptops to consoles. So how do the devices fare? The MSI GS65 has a built-in RTX 2080 which is twice as powerful as the PlayStation 4 Pro. The GS65 is faster than a GTX 1080 computer and allows you to play Battlefield 5 at over 60 fps with ray-tracing enabled.

The second laptop is the Acer Predator Triton 500. Here we have an RTX 2060 card. The laptop is supposed to be more powerful than a PC with a GTX 1070 card. Power compared to consoles? 1.6 times more powerful than the PlayStation 4 Pro.

It must be admitted that the people planning the conference made up the comparisons nicely, but they are slightly exaggerated. First, there is no point in comparing the stronger cards to the weaker ones. Secondly, it is interesting what ray-tracing quality settings we are talking about in the case of Battlefield 5. Comparing to the most powerful console on the market, the Xbox One X, has been carefully avoided. The lecturer also said: “This is twice as strong as the PlayStation 4 Pro. Look at this: next-gen console in my hands. ” It is worth adding, however, that the new generation consoles will not be “only” twice as powerful as the PlayStation 4 Pro. And probably the price of laptops will also knock us off our feet.
