Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Could Become AMD Big Navi Killer

Rumors of the next generation Ampere promise major changes with the new 3080.

Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3080 may go beyond amazing new fan designs, there are rumors that it could get the GA102-200 GPU and seriously pull up performance, not to mention the RTX 3090 graphics card going beyond the current generation (although this seems unlikely at this stage).

In any case, we must make it clear that this is all scrappy information from the rumor mill, but nevertheless the Twitter source is a well-known insider with a solid track record.

Of course, the source makes it clear in their post that this is an educated guess based on the specs assumed, and even if the specs are reliable, it is ultimately not clear what the next generation Ampere products will be called.

Kopite7kimi reckons the RTX 3080 can be built around a GA102-200 GPU with 4,352 CUDA cores and 10GB of video memory. Now, remember how often we’ve heard before that the GA102 is a GPU designed for the flagship RTX 3080 Ti (and the new Titan Spin), as well as, as the source theorizes, a potential RTX 3090 (another likely, as they say, the RTX 3080 Super with a release without delay).

So the names are not accurate, but the RTX 3080 seems to be promising, which is built on the same GPU as the mega-powerful Ti model, although in this case we expect some performance reduction in order to properly beat the price-performance ratio.

The rumor mill is extremely excited about the potential of Big Navi, as you no doubt know. A major showdown is expected in September when Nvidia and AMD unveil their new products, but this – and all of the above – remains speculation.
