Nvidia will activate G-Sync technology on AMD’s FreeSync modules

You probably remember the discussions that started after the premiere of Nvidia’s G-Sync technology and FreeSync, which AMD presented shortly after that. In theory, both of these solutions, and more precisely the modules that drive them built into the monitor, should not be compatible, but as it turned out, Nvidia wants to enable G-Sync technology on AMD’s FreeSync modules.

The topic is, of course, not without controversy, because while Nvidia asks to pay extra for its module, AMD licenses it for free. We may think that the Greens just noticed that FreeSync monitors dominate the market among popular monitors, so they decided to announce that in fact G-Sync can run on the hardware powered by FreeSync and any other A-Sync variations. . The company has already completed testing 400 models, of which only 12 have met the requirements. And these are not particularly excessive, because the display must meet only the basic conditions, i.e. no flickering, tearing or screen artifacts with the technology turned on.

So it’s hard to expect that your FreeSync monitor will pass the tests, but not all is lost. It turns out that “G-Sync compatibility” comes down to the fact that the Nvidia Experience software will launch it automatically. In other cases, the player will have to activate this technology. We will check this generosity on the part of Nvidia on January 15, because then the drivers will be updated to the appropriate version. In addition, the company unveiled a new standard “G-Sync Ultimate”, which requires HDR monitors to be as bright as 1000 nits.
