Russia legalizes smuggling of Intel, AMD, Nvidia and Apple products

The Russian technology market is ready for a change. They are reportedly preparing to circumvent economic and technological sanctions by legalizing importation through unofficial means, from now on they are not concerned with whether or not they have a sales permit. Therefore, the Russians will still be able to access hardware from AMD, Intel, Apple, Asus, Huawei and others, despite the fact that these companies stopped selling their products in the country.

Reports indicate that the Russian government itself is working with its Ministry of Industry and Commerce to establish the list of products that can now be sold on the parallel market (what we call contraband) without any sanctions. In addition to products from the technology sector, car brands such as Bentley, Cadillac, Chevrolet and Chrysler are also included. as well as auto parts from manufacturers of companies such as Michelin and Goodyear.

Other products that will have this same treatment in Russia are televisions, consoles, accessories and equipment for the mining, agricultural and electrical sectors, among many others. Yes ok This decision should allow the citizens of the country to continue having access to consumer goods from abroad, these tend to be found at higher prices than normal.

Russia changes its policy to respond to sanctions

The contraband or gray market is also known for not offering consumers guarantees or return opportunities, which are usually guaranteed by official sellers. Previously, Russia had a policy of destroying any consumer goods that entered the country illegally as a way of guaranteeing the rights of original manufacturers.

The change in position is a consequence of the international sanctions that Russia has suffered since it began its invasion of neighboring Ukraine. Since the beginning of the conflict, companies such as TSMC, Intel, AMD, NVIDIA and other big names have decided to paralyze their activities in the country, which in response is trying to revive its semiconductor industry.

Russia wants to produce 28nm chips by 2030

The policy change is just one more in a series of moves Russia has already made to combat sanctions following the invasion of Ukraine.
