Samsung begins mass production of its DDR5 memory –

There is nothing left for the new Intel Alder Lake to be among us and if we want to squeeze their full potential we will go for DDR5 memories, so Samsung begins mass production of its DDR5 memories.

The Samsung Electronics company today announced that it was beginning mass production of its DDR5 EUV memories. Industry’s smallest 14 nanometer (nm) DRAM memories based on extreme ultraviolet (EUV) technology. In addition, Samsung has increased the number of EUV layers to five to offer the finest and most advanced DRAM process available today.

Jooyoung Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of Product and DRAM Technology at Samsung Electronics said the following words:

We have led the DRAM market for nearly three decades by pioneering key patterning technology innovations. Today, Samsung is setting another technological milestone with multilayer EUV that has enabled extreme miniaturization at 14 nm, a feat not possible with the conventional argon fluoride (ArF) process. Building on this advancement, we will continue to provide the most differentiated memory solutions by fully addressing the need for higher performance and capacity in the world based on 5G data, AI and the metaverse.

As some of you may already know, EUV technology becomes increasingly important to improve the accuracy of patterns for higher performance. In this case, Samsung by applying five EUV layers to its 14nm DRAM, has achieved the highest bit density while improving overall wafer productivity by about 20%. Additionally, the 14nm process can help reduce power consumption by almost 20% compared to the previous generation DRAM node.

Leveraging the latest DDR5 standard, Samsung’s 14nm DRAM will help unlock unprecedented speeds of up to 7.2 gigabits per second (Gbps), which is more than double the DDR4 speed of up to 3.2 Gbps.
