AMD CEO Lisa Su expects chip shortages to continue through at least the second half of 2022

During her participation in the Beverly Hills Code Conference, AMD CEO Lisa Su spoke about the lack of components and silicon that is affecting the PC industry since the end of 2019, mentioning her point of view and her predictions for the future on said situation.

Su stated that such a shortage of components is expected to continue for the remainder of 2021, with a slight improvement in early 2022 although there will not yet be enough chips and electronic components to supply demand. The noticeable improvements would only arrive in the second half of 2022, so gamers and enthusiasts will have to keep fighting to get stock and pay higher prices than normal for at least another year.

Another topic discussed was mining

Consistent with the statements of Devinder Kumar, AMD CFO Lisa Su mentioned that the increase in the demand for the company’s components was due to an increase in demand in the industry in general and not to mining, which he considers a small portion of AMD’s revenue. This is something that attracts attention after several graphics to mine based on Radeon GPUs appear, which shows that the company is interested in generating profits from this market. It is not very clear why the company denies interest in this market, although possibly it is to avoid the hatred of the anti-miners and thus try to keep them buying AMD.

It will be interesting to see when all this situation of lack of components and chips ends that is not only affecting the PC industry but also all industries that require advanced chips, such as the automotive industry, so that everything returns to normal and not It is impossible to get that component that we want so much at a good price.

What do you think about these statements by Lisa Su? Do you think everything will normalize within a year?
