Scalpers are selling DDR5 kits for up to $ 2,500

It seems that Scalpers (resellers) do not live only on graphics cards and Consoles, now they also have the new DDR5 RAM in their possession. If a consumer product is difficult to find, you can be sure that people will sell it at inflated prices, it is the law of supply and demand.

The market was already selling DDR5 kits at high prices at the Alder Lake launch. Those memories were quickly depleted, leaving those who wanted to upgrade their PCs the option of purchasing a DDR4-compatible Z690 motherboard. And as we all know, high demand combined with low supply is the perfect match for resellers.

Now some obscenely priced kits can be found on Ebay auction site. It seems that the most expensive item at the moment is a Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5 SDRAM 5200MHz kit that has a purchase price of $ 2,499. Corsair is priced at $ 340 on its website for those memos, which means the seller is raising it by 635%.

Elsewhere, we see that some 16GB DDR5 RAM kits cost around $ 800, a 600% markup on what this should be priced at $ 160.

EBay’s own tool shows that the median selling price for DDR5 memory over the past month is $ 531, while the highest selling price is $ 2,500.

To make matters worse for buyers, the memory DDR5 has a problem, and is that of many manufacturers, the shortage, in their case missing power management integrated circuits (PMIC) for DDR5 modules, these circuits have a manufacturing delay of 35 weeks.

Certainly, there are not many DDR5 kits on eBay compared to graphics cards and consoles, but the only people who would want them at the moment are those with a compatible Alder Lake motherboard, so the target audience is very small.

Also, those who buy one of the Alder Lake CPUs can opt for a DDR4 compatible Z690 mobo, although these tend to have fewer features, but don’t worry, DDR5 vs DDR4 they perform the same.
