NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3060, firmware updated to solve an annoying problem

NVIDIA released, athis address,un tool per update the firmwareof two video card models and solve an annoying incompatibility with some monitors complained by some users.

To be precise, it looks like the GPUs GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3060 connected to the monitor via DisplayPort do not agree with the specification DisplayID, which provides support for advanced features such as HDR, Wide Color Gamut and more. The bug causes the screen to remain black until the operating system loads, making operations such as entering the BIOS and everything that goes with it, such as selecting the storage drive to boot from, impossible.

In order to install the update, those who have the problem must follow the following “workarounds” to get around the black screen at startup:

  • Start the PC using DVI or HDMI
  • Start the PC with a different monitor
  • Change boot mode from UEFI to Legacy
  • Start the PC via a different video source (secondary or integrated video card)

The tool works similar to the one released a few months ago to update the firmware of GeForce RTX 3000 video cards and enable support for Resizable BAR technology. If you have one of the cards in question but don’t have any problems with your display you can skip this update.
