SEGA says the future of gaming is through NFTs and the Cloud

SEGA revealed more details about his project”super game“, which is basically the design of multiple games with some of them based on cloud technology o NFT. In May 2021, the company revealed during a financial results presentation that its long-term plan included a five-year strategy called “creating Super Game”.

Its parent company, Sega Sammy, said then in November that it would consider investing up to 100 billion yen ($882 million) over the next five years to achieve its “Super Game” ambitions. At the time it was believed that the “Super Game” was going to be a single, huge title, but a new internal interview has clarified that it refers to a description that SEGA is giving out preparing several high-budget games.

“Regarding NFTs, we would like to try various experiments and have already started many different studies and considerations, but there is nothing decided at the moment regarding P2E (Play to Earn games with crypto economy). Many announcements have already been made. about it, even abroad, but there are users showing negative reactions at the moment,” Executive Vice President Shuji Utsumi said.

“We have to carefully evaluate many things, such as how we can mitigate the negative elements, to what extent we can introduce it within the Japanese regulations, what will and will not be accepted by users. So, we will consider it further if this leads us to our mission of “Constantly Creating, Forever Captivating”, but if it is perceived as simply making money, I would like to make the decision not to proceed.

The games have a history of expansion through the connection of various cultures and technologies. For example, social networking and gaming video viewing are recent examples. It’s a natural extension for the future of gaming to expand to involve new areas like cloud gaming and NFTs.”
