Sony's new smartphones

Sony's new smartphones

Despite the cancellation of the MWC in Barcelona, Sony has announced its new range of Xperia smartphones. In particular, the models unveiled on February 24 by the Japanese company are three: Xperia Pro, Xperia 1 II and Xperia 10 II. There is also a fourth device that had already been announced a few days before, namely the entry-level Xperia L4.
Put simply, we have a smartphone for each price range. We anticipate that the solutions presented by Sony have particularly interesting features. On the other hand, the Japanese company is trying to renew following the not exactly exciting sales of last year, as evidenced by the recent "move" of the portal dedicated to smartphones. But what is Sony focusing on to relaunch itself in this market?

Sony Xperia Pro

Just a few weeks ago we discussed the future of the photographic sector of smartphones in our guide to sensors. Well, in a market where the main trend aims to insert more and more sensors, Sony has decided to focus on a different solution with its Xperia Pro. We are talking about a device with an HDMI input for connection to a professional camera or camcorder.

If you are wondering what this feature is for, you must know that the smartphone supports 5G mmW / sub6 connectivity and is therefore able to transmit live video streaming. Live streaming can be monitored through a special histogram.
In short, Sony has thought of everything and this idea opens the door to a potential revolution in the concept of live broadcast, given that potentially professional content can be created anywhere.

Of course, we are talking about a specific area that only interests a niche of public, but surely the idea of Sony has its why, in a context in which smartphone cameras cannot yet rival professional equipment. Entering the field of classic specifications, we find instead a rear module consisting of three 12MP sensors and an iTOF 3D lens (we will talk more about it with Sony Xperia 1 II).
The front camera is 8MP. There is also a 6.5-inch OLED display with 4K resolution, 21: 9 aspect ratio, HDR and Motion Blur Reduction support, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, 8GB of RAM, 512GB of internal memory and a 4000 mAh battery. Also present the 3.5mm audio jack for headphones and IP65 / 68 certification.
Sony has extracted an interesting smartphone from the cylinder, but we have not exactly positive news: at the moment there is no information on a possible arrival in Europe and the price has not even been announced.

Sony Xperia 1 II

In the wake of Sony Xperia 1, a smartphone that had managed to convince critics last year, the Japanese company has announced Sony Xperia 1 II. It is a high-end device (in Germany it costs 1199 euros, Italian prices have not yet been revealed). The main innovations are to be found in the presence of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, in the consequent support for 5G sub6 networks and in the renewed photographic sector.
In particular, the latter implements exclusive features, from 20 fps AF / AE to Real-time Eye AF. Sony Xperia 1 is the first smartphone in the world to allow these possibilities, which in practical terms translate into a focus that can potentially put a strain on competitive devices.

At the component level, we find three 12MP ZEISS sensors: a 24 mm Dual PD AF with f / 1.7 aperture, a 70 mm PDAF with f / 2.4 aperture and OIS and a 16 mm Dual PD AF with f / 2.2 aperture and OIS. The fourth lens is a 3D iTOF, while the front camera is 8MP. For the rest, there is a 6.5-inch OLED screen with 4K resolution, aspect ratio 21: 9 with support for HDR and Motion Blur Reduction, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of internal memory and a 4000 mAh battery. There is no lack of audio jacks for headphones and IP65 / IP68 certification. For more details on the smartphone, we refer you to the official site of Sony Italy. Availability is expected from spring 2020.

Under the body we find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor, flanked by 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory. We then find a 6-inch OLED display with Full HD + resolution and 21: 9 aspect ratio and a 3600 mAh battery.
Xperia 10 II features a triple 12MP (f / 2.0, 26mm) + 8MP (f / 2.4, 52mm) + 6MP (f / 2.2, 16mm) camera and an 8MP front camera. Also present the 3.5mm jack for headphones and IP65 / 68 certification, as well as support for 4G LTE. For more information, we advise you to consult the official Sony website.
