SST-TP05B, the cooling of the PlayStation 5 disc from SilverStone

For those who do not want to reach for drives specially designed for the PS5 console or who have already bought SSDs that meet the given requirements, SilverStone has prepared something important – TP05. It’s nothing more than cooling the PlayStation 5 drive… and more.

PlayStation 5 SST-TP05B cooling from SilverStone

Of course, the TP05 cooling will work with any M.2 2280 drive, but SilverStone ensures that its size will allow for trouble-free installation in a new generation Sony console. The cooling itself is nothing revolutionary, because it consists of an aluminum heat sink with a height of 5.6 mm, an aluminum bottom cover and two types of thermal pads: 0.5 mm thick for the lower part of the disk and 1.75 mm thick for the upper part (their conductivity heat is respectively 1.8 and 1.5 W / mK.

From personal experience, I admit that the SSDs required by PlayStation 5 for the PCIe 4.0 × 4 interface need cooling. Especially when it comes to the high-end ones (with a sequential reading of 5500+ MB / s), because then their temperature rises to unpleasant levels under load, often leading to thermal-throttling and lower disk life. However, it is worth remembering that you will only insert a cooler with a thickness of up to 8 mm “in the front” and up to 2.45 mm at the back into the SSD bay for the PS5.

Unfortunately, SilverStone has not announced the price of its SST-TP05B heatsink, as well as its availability.
