Stop everyone, the GeForce RTX 4070 could be more powerful than expected

According to the latest rumors released by the leaker Kopite7kimi, the GeForce RTX 4070 it could be more powerful compared to what was previously rumored, practically with specifications in line with the alleged RTX 4070 Ti which became an element of discussion a few days ago.

The GeForce RTX 4070, according to the original rumors, should have come on the market with an AD104 GPU equipped with 7168 CUDA active cores and 10GB of GDDR6 memory at 18 Gbps on 160-bit bus. Specifications that had not completely convinced the fans, especially “memory side”.

In recent days, the same leaker has feared the arrival of a more powerful variant, a hypothetical RTX 4070 Ti, thanks to a fully active AD104 GPU with 7680 CUDA core but above all 12GB of GDDR6X memory at 21 Gbps on 192-bit bus.

Those specifications, according to new rumors, would have become those of the GeForce RTX 4070. The leaker speaks of a TGP of 300W and a 3DMark Time Spy Extreme score higher than 11,000 points, a value in line with the RTX 3090 Ti.

Compared to the previous indiscretion, it is basically the TGP which drops from 400 to 300W, a sign that the clock may have been limited. Of course, the hypotheses of a figure not yet defined by NVIDIA or, more simply, of conflicting indiscretions remain in the field.

A GeForce RTX 4070 with such specifications would force NVIDIA to switch to the next GPU, AD103 (heart of the rumored RTX 4080), in case it wanted to propose an RTX 4070 Ti in the course of 2023.

The positioning of the RTX 4070 remains to be understood, but we will probably find out in the coming weeks as the announcement of the new generation approaches: NVIDIA could update us in September in view of a gradual launch, starting from October.
