Panasonic will manufacture new generation Tesla cells

Panasonic has announced a new investment, the effect of which is to start the production of 4,680 Tesla cells intended for, among others, battery systems for electric cars until the end of the fiscal year ending March 2024. Although Tesla will manufacture on its own, because we know that the Model Y models leaving from Gigafactory in Texas will be the first to reach the 4680 cells, the company will still need partners around the world to meet the supply.

That is why Tesla has partnered with current battery suppliers to start producing 4680 cells as well. The company’s main partner is Panasonic, which has previously announced that it will launch a prototype production line for the new cell. However, the narrative quickly took a direction in accordance with the idea of ​​”making a large investment” in the production lines of these cells. A month ago, rumors about the 700-million (in dollars) investment appeared in the media, and today we got confirmation of the investment itself, but not the amount itself.
