Health!

Back to be quiet! today with the update of their flagship fans, the Silent Wings 3! Version 2 has long been a very popular model for those looking for minimal noise pollution, while having a respectable airflow in a quiet configuration, I actually did a test here. The brand took its time but the wait is now over, the Silent Wings 3 are available in 12 and 14 cm, 3-pin and 4-pin PWM, it is the 12 cm 3-pin 1450 RPM version which will be the guinea pig of today’s test. Offered at prices ranging from 22 to 25 € depending on the version, this remains unchanged compared to their predecessors, let’s see if the new ones are up to the task!

Fan reference be quiet! Silent Wings 3 120mm
Dimensions 120 x 120 x 25 mm
Connectivity 3-pin
Bearing type FDB
RPM 1450 RPM
Working voltage 5 -> 13.2 V
Maximum air flow 50.5 CFM
Max sound level 16.4 dB
Consumption 1.44 W
Weight 137 g
Cable length 50 cm
MTBF 300,000 hours
Guarantee 3 years
Recommended rate 22.50 €

The technical characteristics are very classic here, with dimensions of 12 x 12 x 2.5 cm and a 3-pin connection for a contained weight of 137 grams. The Silent Wings 3 12cm can operate at a maximum of 1450 RPM (at 12V), the operating range can however go from 5V to a maximum of 13.2V, which is higher than what a motherboard provides, but a rheobus may however in some cases allow such tension.
At most, the theoretical sound level is 16.5 dB, which will certainly be higher in real conditions. The consumption will not exceed 1.44 Watts which will make it a low energy product.
be quiet! offers a 3-year warranty to its Silent Wings 3 accompanied by an MTBF of 300,000 hours (ie 34 years ..), so it should logically be a durable product. The price of 22.50 € for its part even if it remains high for a fan is not very excessive for a high-end fan.

The front of the box offers a photo of the beast as well as the name of the brand, the model, as well as the maximum speed. In addition to that a list of the strong points is present, namely a virtually inaudible operation, optimized blades, a silent motor etc.

At the back, a little history of the brand as well as once again the same listing of the strengths as at the front and a table showing the full characteristics.

Inside the box we fall once again on 2 smaller boxes, one contains the bundle and the other the fan, at least everything is well packed!

Here is the beast! Foolproof sobriety as usual with the brand, the build quality is clearly there, the fan is rather light but exudes quality. The blades are identical to what we found on the Silent Wings 3, namely striated and the number of 7. A sticker is present in the center. One of the things that changes from its predecessor is the shape of the fairing, in fact when it was circular it is now octagonal which apparently improves airflow.
At the back a sticker is present giving some technical characteristics, such as the operating voltage, the consumption as well as the maximum RPMs and the date of manufacture.

The other change concerns the corners, although it is always possible to interchange the corners with those provided the installation differs, which should facilitate the change and make the whole thing more solid thanks to clips that will hold everything together. square.

The cable is black and braided, the black braid is of good quality even if in the end could have been tighter.

In the bundle we find the installation manual, 2 sets of wedges (both equipped with rubber), 1 Sata adapter (finally!) 12/7 / 5V to change the fan speed as well as the necessary screws. In the end the bundle is complete and lacks nothing, there will logically be no need to buy anything more.

One of the corners is plastic but equipped with rubber in its center, the classic screws will be used here for assembly.

This corner is entirely made of rubber in order to guard against any possible vibrations coming from the fan, you must pay attention to the direction of installation because there are 2 ways to put them, either on the L side which will leave a small gap between the fan and the case is on the S side which will stick to the maximum.
