Introduction

Hi all !

It had been a while since we had a memory kit to test in the editorial office. Corsair had already sent us a very high-end kit last year, the Dominator Platinum RGB in 3600 MHz. Today, the Platinum RGB are back but in white version this time around, a 2 x 8 GB DDR4 3200 MHz kit sold all the same for 145 €! Let’s take a closer look at all of this.

The 2 x 8 GB Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB White kit is of course designed to operate in Dual Channel, both on an AMD and Intel platform of course! Like any good self-respecting memory kit, and in order to ensure display on any machine, the base frequency before the activation of the XMP profile (or DOCP at AMD) is fixed at 2133 MHz for timings of 15 -15-15-36 at a voltage of 1.2 V. Once the XMP profile is activated, the frequency changes to 3200 MHz for timings of 16-18-18-36 by increasing the voltage to 1.35V , like most kits on the market anyway.

As usual with these memory kits, the Platinum RGB heatsink in White version gives pride of place to RGB. The manufacturer has indeed installed no less than 12 ARGB LEDs (individually configurable therefore) on each module. And these are not simple LEDs as we see them everywhere, but Capellix, they are smaller, brighter and consume less than conventional LEDs. In return, of course, they are more expensive, but with almost 150 € for a 16 GB kit, Corsair is well within its costs!

Unpacking and presentation

The box is in all respects identical to what we find on black “classic” Platinum RGB kits, namely a sober box all in black dressed with the brand logo, the capacity of the kit and its frequency, a photo of a model and of course the name of the model! At the rear, a list of the strong points is present (high-end chips, addressable LEDs, etc.), in six different languages.
Note that this is not really a rigid cardboard per se, but a thick foam surrounded by a cardboard paper, it should not be a problem for the transport in any way.

Inside, we therefore fall on a thick foam in which the two modules rest. They are both their rigid plastic to make sure they don’t get damaged.

The first thing that strikes you when you have the modules in hand is the quality of manufacture on the one hand but also the weight of the animals. With 97 grams on the scale, it is clear that we are well above the average. This is easily explained by seeing the huge radiator which covers almost the entire PCB and also protrudes far above. In addition to the colors and the Dominator Platinum // RGB which replaces the unique Corsair logo on the Dominator Platinum RGB black, the modules are physically identical on the outside. In any case, we can only appreciate the quality of the whole, we feel that we are facing a high-end product. But hey, as some would say, we stay on a memory kit!
We love white in the editorial staff, and it’s no surprise that we can only love this mixture of white and gold on these modules!

We can see the ten Cappellix LEDs on the edge, they are split into two rows of five square LEDs and the Dominator logo in their center which houses two LEDs. We can believe without the slightest problem that this may not be everyone’s cup of tea when it comes to design, some prefer full bands, but at least there is something for everyone!
