[Test] Corsair SF600 80 Plus Platinum – a nice update
| Specs | Price

Introduction

Hi all!

Corsair has been offering SFX power supplies for mini-PCs for a few years now, particularly good as the SF600 tested by the editorial staff. Today, the manufacturer is offering an update of the same SF600, moving from 80PLus Gold certification to Platinum, a better performance therefore but not only that! We have therefore tested the latest version for you, it is offered at around € 125 and guaranteed for seven years, is the update worth the detour? This is what we will see!

We are therefore faced with a block of 600 Watts and like any good self-respecting top-of-the-range model, all of the power for which it is sold is available on the 12V, displaying no less than 600 Watts on a single rail. The efficiency takes a step compared to the old model, the 80Plus Platinum certification is now in the game, with 94% maximum efficiency at 50% load, the heat release will be even more reduced. The dimensions also reflect the SFX format, namely 12 cm wide by 10 cm deep and 6.3 cm high, difficult to be more compact especially when we know that it can send 600 Watts to the components. The modularity is total and it will therefore be quite easy to set up the beast in a box.
Everything is cooled by a fan equipped with a 9.2 cm “Rifle bearing” type bearing rotating at a maximum speed of 3950 RPM, fortunately it should not reach this speed in practice, otherwise beware of the ears! Note an improvement in ventilation, even if the hybrid mode is still present the fan will only start from 240 Watts this time (120 Watts previously). The beast will not exceed 32 dB according to theoretical data, but as usual you should not really trust this type of data.
Offered at around € 130, it is the same price as the older generation while having even more attractive features, so it should not disappoint (logically!).

Unpacking and bundle

The box has been using the colors and the style of all Corsair products for a few years now, namely black with a few small touches of yellow, it is rather sober and there is not much to complain about. On the front, there is a photo of the beast, with the brand logo, the model name as well as the 80Plus Platinum logo and the mention of the seven-year warranty. A list of the strong points is also part, the total modularity, Japanese 105 ° capacitors and the hybrid ventilation mode.
At the rear we find graphs of efficiency and ventilation as well as a table of power distribution. Dimensions are also present here, although the SFX format is still the same!

When opening, we fall on the block sandwiched between two thick foams, no problem for transport therefore. The accessories are on the side.

On the bundle side, it’s a little better than what we had on the first version. We also have modular cables (braided strand by strand!), An ATX -> SFX adapter, scratch and plastic cable ties, a power cord, the necessary screws and a sticker logo. Difficult to ask for more for a diet.
