[Test] Sapphire Radeon RX 580 Nitro + 8 GB, still in the game?
| Specs | Price –

Hi all !

The graphics card market has evolved rapidly this year with the release of the Nvidia GTX 16XX, RTX Super and other AMD RX 5700s. The two founders are fighting in the mud to the delight of us consumers, because the first thing that goes down is the price. Competition is good! But on the entry and the mid-range, AMD struggles to offer new products, the RX 5700 are interesting on the high-end, but below it only remains the now old RX 570/580 and 590. With a recent drop which allows to find RX 580s at barely 170 €, are these still interesting? This is what we will see with our Sapphire RX 580 Nitro + 8 GB!

Technical characteristics

Sapphire Radeon RX 580 Nitro+ 8 Go

We will quickly go over the technical characteristics of the beast which begins to date strongly now. It is still a Polaris GPU which was introduced with the first RX 400 in 2016 and then declined on the RX 500 the following year. We are therefore on an architecture which is at the end of its life, but at 170 € it will be difficult to be choosy if the results are up to par! The Sapphire Radeon RX 580 Nitro + 8 GB operates at a base frequency of 1257 MHz for 1411 MHz in boost mode, that is to say an overclocking of 71 MHz compared to the reference frequencies, it is nothing exceptional but it is still it took. It has 8 GB of GDDR5 clocked at 2000 MHz, an amount more than enough for any game at the moment, especially since this card is not designed to run games in 4K.

The connection is entrusted to a DVI-D port, two HDMI and a DisplayPort and the card measures 26 cm in length, 13.5 cm in height and 4.3 cm in thickness. It is therefore of a correct size to fit perfectly into a very large majority of ATX boxes on the market, you will have difficulty finding a box that is not able to accommodate it elsewhere. On the other hand, the TDP is particularly high for the 2019 standards, with no less than 185 Watts! This is 65 Watts more than a GTX 1660 Super which is supposed to be more efficient, and even 5 Watts more than its big sister RX 5700. So before even starting, we know very well that the performance / consumption ratio does not will clearly not be in favor of the RX 580. This is one of the disadvantages of testing a graphics card several years after release.
