The end of cryptocurrency mining with gaming GPUs won’t come until mid-2022

It appears that it may still be some time before gamers (GAMERS) can see reasonable prices on graphics cards. But a definite change is coming, a big change with Ethereum, in the form of something called ‘The Merge’.

Since May, we have been waiting for Ethereum to change the working mechanisms that consume GPUs and this is very power consuming, to a lighter and not computationally intensive share model. Back then they promised it would only be a matter of months, but everything remains the same today, GPUs for games are in high demand for miners.

That puts gamers in an awkward position, particularly those who dream of swapping out their graphics card.

The Merge sounds like a momentous event, but it’s really just a vital part of the Ethereum roadmap. It is an evolution that, as the site of Ethereum, “Refers to a set of interconnected updates that will make Ethereum more scalable, more secure and more sustainable.”

The problem for some and a catastrophe for others is that The Merge It will not arrive until at least the first half of 2022, which implies at least 8 more months of waiting for the market to begin to regularize little by little.

The scenario is not good since GPUs will continue to be sold at very high prices until the RTX 40 is almost on the market and with this there will be an overlap of architectures and prices, since then stores and manufacturers will have to lower them to be able to sell them .

Until then, I guess we will have to deal with the continued lack of GPUs.

All of this is a step in the right direction for the world’s second largest cryptocurrency. But in the background of it all are the people who could make a difference or who invested what little they had in mining ETH and who today are getting ahead, progressing economically.

ETH 2.0 will only arrive in the middle of 2022 and at that moment we will have the big change, what do you think will happen?
