The latest version of Linux will appeal to the owners of the Ryzen APU

According to Phoronix, the latest version of Linux, i.e. Linux 5.16, has improved the operation of the Ryzen APU, i.e. AMD processors with an integrated graphics processor. So we are talking mainly about laptops and the few miniature computers that use AMD hardware like Ryzen 7 5500U or Ryzen 7 Pro 5850U.

Laptops equipped with these two processors were tested both on Linux with the kernel version 5.15 and 5.11, the results of which compared to the latest Linux 5.16 were much worse. In tests with benchmarks like Legacy, GLmark2, Xonotic, Unvanquished or Gravity Mark, the difference in performance ranged from 10 to 14%. However, some tests showed no improvement in performance, although most achieved either a slight or significant increase in performance.

The most interesting thing is that the reason for these increases is still unclear. Linux 5.16 did touch the AMDGPU drivers and tweaked them accordingly, but it was not announced that the changes would affect crude performance.
