The new generation Airbus electric flying taxi, the CityAirbus

Airbus, after the completion of the Vahana and CityAirbus programs, returned to eVTOL, or electric powered lifts, revealing the next-generation CityAirbus passenger taxi. However, this is not just a project, because according to plans, by 2025, it is to receive a certificate enabling flights.

Airbus has unveiled its new generation CityAirbus

The photos of the new generation CityAirbus immediately confirm that it is a hybrid structure which, after ascending vertically into the sky, starts a more efficient flight using the lift of the wings. Unfortunately, it does not look like these six great propellers are rotating so that they have less drag on the eVTOL. They are in turn assisted by a pair of additional rotors at the rear, which are part of a massive V-shaped tail connected at the top.

From above, this flying electric taxi looks like an eVTOL straight from the Batman mansion, but it will take not only the pilot, but also three passengers on board. Unfortunately, the capabilities of the new generation CityAirbus are not impressive and they are even three times lower than the competition. Airbus estimates a top speed of just 120 km / h and a range of just 80 km between charges of ~ 60 kg of the lithium-ion battery.

So chances are the CityAirbus will see more impressive specs ahead of test flights in 2023 to keep the company up to some degree with rival models. Of course, as long as everything goes according to plan and the new Airbus eVTOL will actually be put into service over time, with a low noise level of less than 70 dB during the landing phase. Initially, it is to go only to third-party companies offering transport services.
