The performance of the Core i5-12490F shows the role of clock speed and cache. You can buy this CPU only in China

A few days ago we found out about the Intel Core i5-12490F processor only for China, and today thanks to the entries in BenchLeaks we can compare how this “Core i5-12500F equivalent” performs in performance tests.

The first tests showed the performance of the Core i5-12490F. Only on Geekbench, the comparisons still give us important information

Both Core i5-12490F and Core i5-12400F and Core i5-12500 offer 6 cores and 12 threads, but are based on completely different silicon matrices. Thus, the Chinese Core i5-12490F received a larger silicon core (C0), which is located, among others in the Core i9-12900K, and the other two smaller (H0), offering only access to 6 Performance cores. The issues of temperature / power consumption differences have unfortunately not been revealed, and while they would be much more interesting, the performance difference between the two CPUs also presents a handful of good information.

Going straight to the most important thing, the only differences between the two processors come down to L3 memory (20 vs 18 MB), base clock (3 GHz vs 2.5 GHz) and Boost (4.6 GHz vs 4.4 GHz). The Core i5-12490F boasts higher values, which costs almost as much as the i5-12600KF, about $ 250. At the same time, it maintains the level of PBP / MTP of 65/117 watts and the aforementioned clock clocks characteristic of the Core i5-12500.

In comparative testing, it beats the Core i5-12400F by 9.9% in the single-core test and by 14.5% in the multi-core test. The larger L3 memory also allows it to dominate the Core i5-12500 by 2.5% and 5.3% respectively.
