The Steam Deck can be used as a control for the PC via Remote Play

Valve has updated the Steam Deck FAQ page, revealing new details about the company’s portable console. Thanks to this information, multiple Doubts about account data, the boot of other operating systems, about SteamOS itself, and even about the possibility of using the console as a control for our PC.

To get started, In the Steam Deck we can have multiple accounts and each one will have their games and their settings saved locally. In this way, as in the Steam version for PC, we can log in and log out in different accounts, something ideal if you are sharing the console with your brother or another family member.

On the other hand, they tell us that The laptop supports Multi-boot, so we can have several operating systems installed and select which one we want when we turn on. In addition, users will have access to the device’s BIOS, having complete control just like on a PC.

Another almost obvious but important clarification is that SteamOS can launch games in offline mode just as we do in the desktop application. If the game is already installed, we can run it without being connected to the internet, obviously in the case of a single player game that does not require an internet connection.

It can also be used as a conventional PC controller

According to Valve, we can connect the console to a PC through Remote Play and use it as one more control. This is probably due to the fact that the Steam Deck has many features of the Steam Controller, the controller that Valve launched a few years ago, and therefore they can easily apply everything developed for that device.

It was also clarified that all models have the same IPS screen, but the 512GB model has additional anti-reflective coating. Also, the Steam Deck does not support external GPUs (as expected), and connecting it to the Dock does not provide a performance improvement, so the performance of the console will always be constant.

Finally, we can technically connect a VR headset to the Steam Deck, but for obvious reasons, the notebook is not optimized for this use.

In short, Valve seeks to offer as much customization as possible to satisfy everyone. At the end of the day, that’s what PC gaming is all about. The amount of tools that Valve provides us is remarkable and the Steam Deck could be a before and after in the console market.

Hopefully this laptop will be successful, and obviously a worthy competitor in the market. If all goes well, hopefully we will see more companies enter this world that was previously niche, and also more open systems without as many restrictions as they usually have.

The Steam Deck will begin shipping from December in the USA, Canada, the European Union and the United Kingdom. More regions will be added in the course of 2022. If you reside in Latin America you cannot reserve it yet, although you can add it to your wish lists here.

What do you think about all these features on the Steam Deck? Do you think it can make a place for itself in the console market or will it fail like the Steam Machines?
