This is Al Thumama. This stadium will host the 2022 World Cup

Designed by Qatari architect Ibrahim M Jaidah, Al Thumam Stadium is located in the desert of Qatar near the nation’s capital, Doha. Recently, the work on it has come to an end, and its inauguration took place long before the Football World Cup 2022, because eight FIFA 2022 matches, including the quarter-finals, will be played on its turf.

The eye-catching design of the stadium, which seats up to 40,000 spectators, is inspired by gahfiya, a traditional woven cap from the Middle East. Just as a hat protects wearers from the sun, the Al Thumama stadium inspired by it will keep players and spectators cool with a complex cooling system with air-conditioning water jets in the lead role.

Resembling a huge headgear abandoned in the Qatar desert, the recently completed Al Thumama Stadium has been inaugurated and is ready for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In addition to sports facilities, Al Thumama has a mosque, boutique hotel and retail space, and after FIFA 2022 is over, half of the seats will be removed and used for other sporting events. The project itself is quite ecological, because it has a system of using dirty water to irrigate plants and a whole lot of solar panels. However, the building is as sustainable as possible when building a huge stadium in the desert.
