US Air Force aircraft pilots will be able to meet their needs more easily

The US Air Force has modernized the “toilet systems” of its aircraft, improving the urination process for its pilots. Thanks to the Omni Generation 3 Skydrate systems, both sexes will be able to carry out long air missions with greater safety and comfort.

One-off pilots’ flights are not short-lived. Airmen often spend many hours at the controls without being able to catch their breath or take care of their physiological needs in a “traditional” way, which in a tight cockpit is not something pleasant at all. Hence, among others pilots’ hearty breakfast consisting of steak and eggs, which has been used since the times of bomber missions from World War II, because a high-protein meal postponed the need to get things done “in time”.

Thus, during long flights, the problem of unloading the bladder can be solved in three ways – with an adult diaper, withholding the need until landing or an advanced system of tubes and bags. Each of these options has its advantages and disadvantages, but the latter solution to the problem is by far the best, or at least has the greatest development potential that has just been exploited by US aviation.

Women’s version

The Air Force Aircraft Command (ACC) has worked with the Air Force Auxiliary Command and other Air Force units to gather the views of pilots – especially women – as part of efforts to improve the Skydrate system built by Omni.

The test consisted mainly of 30 women whose feedback was used to improve the system. This one now consists of a larger collection bag, increased flow rate, or hoses of different lengths, and can be operated with one hand.
