What is RISC-V for Apple? The company itself tries to answer this question

It seems Apple does not intend to exclusively deal with the Arm architecture, looking for alternatives for it. This is indicated by the need for developers who will be the front line in what RISC-V will ultimately be for Apple.

It looks like the RISC-V architecture for Apple may become the foundation of the future, but it is a rather distant future

The RISC-V architecture for processors can be universally and freely used for any purpose by everyone. This, in turn, ensures significant savings for everyone, because you don’t have to pay anyone, and the hardware architecture is at your fingertips. However, we do not know what Apple wants to do with it at the moment. In the description of the positions that the company wants to fill, we will find information that most likely work on RISC-V has already started in the past.

Currently, Apple is looking for experienced developers who can boast detailed knowledge of RISC-V for the Core Operating Systems division of VaNG. This one is currently responsible for developing and improving various built-in subsystems running on iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. The search for programmers makes sense, as the integration of RISC-V with the Apple ecosystem requires the company to prepare the software from scratch.

Apple’s interest in the RISC-V architecture is evidently dictated by the desire to reduce the fees that the company has to pay to Arm for the license. There is probably no need to count on advanced systems in the coming years, but basing a number of controllers on RISC-V should be a significant saving for the company.
