The beta version of WhatsApp for Android is introducing a feature that has been tested for some time in the iOS version. It is about additional protection of the backups stored in the cloud.
For now, as we mentioned, the functionality is coming in beta. Thanks to it, we will be able to secure the backups stored in Google Drive using a 64-bit encryption key or a personal password. This means that both conversations and stored copies will be safe.

However, it’s worth remembering that losing your password will also result in losing your cloud backup. Here, even WhatsApp won’t be able to do anything. However, this is a price to be reckoned with. Encryption is available in version 2.21.21.5, but not every owner of this release has it. WhatsApp also doesn’t mention when the option will hit the stable version of the app.
