According to IBM and Samsung, processors could consume 85% less

The truth is that the idea does not look bad after seeing what some consume, and we do not talk about the consumption of graphics. the impressive thing is that according to IBM and Samsung processors could consume 85% less.

To be honest, the truth is that it would be great if in the near future we could have computers with ridiculous consumption, and not see the high consumption that some current processors have.

Hence IBM y Samsung two days ago they announced their new method of chip making with VTFET transistors (Field Effect Transistors with Vertical Transport).

This new manufacturing method, as you can see in the image below, consists of allowing the current between the transistors to travel both horizontally as it is currently done, and vertically, where thanks to the latter we would benefit from energy efficiency.

In this way, the manufacture of future chips using VTFETs would begin by installing transistors vertically, so we would see how the density would increase considerably and, most importantly, the energy efficiency.

If you understand some English, in the video that we leave you below, you can hear how the chips manufactured with low VTFET could have two times more performance or a consumption of 85% less (the idea that the 2 companies have), comparing it with current chips manufactured under FINFET.

Isn’t this all amazing and it would be amazing to have them? Well, wait seated because according to the companies, this technology would not be available to the normal user before the end of the decade, because there is a hard work before, such as planning, thousands of tests, prototypes, and a long etc.

Here is the video where they talk about it:
