AMD “Beige Goby” is the graphics circuit for Radeon RX 6000 cards in the entry-level class

During the development phase, technology companies often use unofficial code names, which often appear in drivers and databases long before the products they represent are ready to meet the end customer. Through lice-reading enthusiasts, these names bubble to the surface and together with rumors, leaked information and code names in the same spirit, a puzzle-laying can begin.

Now the turn has come to “Beige Goby” which is glimpsed in an upcoming driver for Linux, where fish name and AMD connection means that it is a code name for an RDNA 2 graphics circuit. The Navi 21 top circuit in the Radeon RX 6900 XT and the RX 6800 duo have the code name “Sienna Cichlid”, while “Navy Flounder” refers to the Navi 22 in the RX 6700 XT. Further down the scale, “Dimgrey Cavefish” refers to the Navi 23, which is why the new find is linked to the Navi 24 and graphics cards in the entry-level class.

Exactly what specifications the upcoming circuit comes with can only be speculated in. Given that GPU-Z images recently confirmed that the Navi 23 will fit in the Radeon RX 6600 and RX 6600 XT, with an alleged level of performance in line with the previous generation RX 5700 XT, it is reasonable to assume that Navi 24 graphics cards are called RX 6500 XT and perform much like the RX 5600 XT. The number of calculation units (CU) lands below the 28 waiting RX 6600.

The fact that the code name is now glimpsed suggests that an actual launch is not too distant. The Radeon RX 6600 cards are expected to look forward to this year’s digital edition of the Computex trade fair, but Navi 24 and the entry-level class will be delayed until after the summer. More information about the simpler graphics cards will most likely leak up until then.
