AMD confirms that the 5.5 GHz of the Ryzen 7000 in the presentations was achieved without overclocking

AMD revealed its new generation of Zen 4-based Ryzen 7000 processors during its presentation at Computex 2022. At the event, a 16-core CPU running Ghostwire: Tokyo was shown at speeds of 5.3 and 5.5 GHz.

Before the doubt of the users who filled the social networks with comments, AMD claims that the processor in question was running without any overclocking assistance.

The Ryzen 7000 was running on factory settings

In an interview, Robert Hallock and Frank Azor, heads of marketing and gaming solutions at AMD, said the 16-core CPU was a prototype and was on an AMD reference motherboard.

Also, the Ryzen 7000 was being cooled by a 280mm AIO, which helped the processor to reach higher frequencies. They clarified that the CPU was running without overclocking, and that the frequencies presented are normal for the processor.

They explain that depending on the scene, most cores will run at around 5.5 GHz, varying between 5.2 and 5.5 GHz on all 16 cores while running Ghostwire: Tokyo. Along with the Ryzen 7000 CPU were two 16 GB DDR5-6000 memories, CL30.

Regarding the 170W of consumption presented after the revelation of the new processors, AMD representatives said that this is not the TDP of the 16-core Ryzen 7000 CPU, which was consuming 125W, but rather it is the maximum power delivery capacity. of the new socket AM5 LGA 1718. This ensures a drive margin for the CPU to reach such high frequencies across multiple cores.

Despite having revealed the new generation of Ryzen processors, little technical information, or even the number of models, was revealed. AMD promises double the L2 cache per core, up to 15% increase in single threading, boost beyond 5GHz (as we’ve already seen).

The processors will have integrated RDNA 2 graphics, DDR5, and PCIe 5.0 memory controllers. The Zen 4 based cores are on 5nm fabricated chiplets.

The first Ryzen 7000 processors are expected to arrive between September 22 and December 21.
