AMD confirms Zen 3 and RDNA 2 in 2020

The Ryzen processor series has been a huge success for AMD. The second generation Zen architecture is based on TSMC’s 7-nanometer technology, where it is also accompanied by the graphic architecture RDNA. It has been known in the past that replacements in the form of Zen 3 and RDNA 2 are on the way, with family names such as “Vermeer” and most recently “Cezanne” circulating in the media – but without set dates.

In the aftermath of AMD’s recently published quarterly report, the company chooses to go out on Twitter and confirm that products based on just Zen 3 and RDNA 2 will reach store shelves by the year 2020. These will probably be based on TSMC’s refined technology of 7 nanometers with the code name N7P.

Although AMD avoids mentioning exactly which processor family will be launched during the year, Zen 3 in the form of “Vermeer” is said to be ready to make its debut around the same time as the postponed Computex trade fair. The big news seems to be even more flexible interconnections of circuits with X3D and Infinity Architecture, which redeems Infinity Fabric.

The case of RDNA 2 is also interesting, as AMD mentions on Twitter “GPUs” in plural. Previously, only the company’s chipsets for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X have been confirmed, while Techpowerup believes that the company’s lack of a DirectX 12 Ultimate-compatible graphics circuit means that a series of consumer graphics cards based on RDNA 2 is expected before the turn of the year.

The architectures Zen 3 and RDNA 2, however, appear to be launched in a very competitive market, where Intel on the processor side during the year will launch both “Comet Lake-S” and “Tiger Lake”, where the latter is based on the brand new architecture Willow Cove. Nvidia, on the other hand, can be out with its new graphics architecture Ampere as soon as during the month of May.
