AMD could be working on a 24-core Ryzen 9 7950X CPU with a TDP of 170 W

From everything we’ve heard about AMD’s next-gen Ryzen 7000 processors, the number of cores will remain unchanged with the R9 7950X maxing out at 16 cores and 32 threads. The novelty seems to be in the IPC and speeds, which translates into excellent single-threaded performance and gaming performance. All X-series models, including the Ryzen 5 7600X, Ryzen 7 7800X, and Ryzen 9 7900X, will have speeds of over 5GHz on all cores, a first for the Zen family.

But and always in the world of rumors we have things like this, a Chinese seller on Weibo has shared the specification sheet of the line Ryzen 7000 including a 24 core/48 thread variant. So far, we’ve seen no evidence of such a model, but it’s possible that AMD is preparing an emergency top-of-the-line CPU in case Raptor Lake turns out to be too good.

AMD prepares a 24-core Ryzen 9 7950X CPU

Note that Intel plans to double the number of efficiency cores (8P + 16E = 24) in its 13th generation processors, which may very well outperform Zen 4 in content creation workloads where they are used. multi-threading, an area dominated by AMD CPUs for quite some time.

A 24-core processor with 5nm Zen 4 can be designed without problems, but this should be possible in a specific form factor as happened with the 5800X3D model.

The Ryzen 9 7900X/7950X are expected to clock in at 5.2-5.6 GHz, slightly higher than the 5.2-5.4 GHz expected for the octa-core Ryzen 7 7800X. A 24-core Ryzen 9 79xx would cost close to $1,000 and launch after the other models, most likely following the higher-end Raptor Lake models.
