AMD demonstrates Radeon R9 Gemini at Virtual Reality Los Angeles

When AMD presented the Fiji family of graphics cards in the summer of 2015, it was in the form of four different models, including a flagship with dual graphics circuits. The launch was originally intended to take place in the autumn of the same year, but was delayed because the company, according to its own statement, wants to wait for the 2016 VR launches.

During the Event Virtual Reality Los Angeles (VRLA) demonstrates AMD the upcoming graphics card, which, however, is hidden in the compact prefabricated Tiki from the American computer builder Falcon Northwest. Interesting in this context is that the computer chassis in question has a box volume of a paltry 12 liters.

The fact that the graphics card can be cooled in the compact chassis despite two thirsty Fiji circuits can probably be attributed to a custom-made water cooler, like the current flagship Radeon R9 Fury X. What suggests that AMD has chosen such a solution again is mainly that the circuit board measures approximately 21-22 centimeter.

Furthermore, the Radeon R9 Gemini is believed to have two full-scale graphics chips Fiji, both with 4 GB of graphics memory of the stacked memory type HBM. This includes a previously announced computing power of 16 TFLOPS, which requires a clock frequency of 977 MHz over the total of 8,192 stream processors to achieve.

The launch of the graphics card is expected to take place in connection with the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive becoming available, ie at the beginning of the second quarter of the year.
