AMD introduces the Radeon R9 290X with 8 GB of video memory in November

The launch of the Geforce GTX 970 and GTX 980 poses some concerns in the Radeon camp. Although it hardly came as a surprise that the architecture Maxwell would also appear in the performance class, no direct setback from AMD can be seen, apart from price reductions and the occasional game packaging. Now, however, another model is added.

Ahead of Christmas shopping, AMD is investing in upgraded versions of the Radeon R9 290X with the Radeon-exclusive partner manufacturers Powercolor, Sapphire and Club3D. In the new edition, the amount of video memory is doubled from 4 to 8 GB GDDR5 to position the model against the competitor’s Geforce GTX 980.

The graphics cards in question belong exclusively to each manufacturer’s more lavish model series, where, for example, tailor – made coolers and increased clock frequencies are the main ingredients. Anyone who acquires one of these graphics cards also gets games on the purchase according to the Never Settle campaign.

The launch of the Radeon R9 290X with double the amount of memory will take place on November 6, and the graphics cards are estimated to cost about five hundred more than normal, which means that the prices should end up just above the SEK 4,000 mark.
