AMD is phasing out the Radeon HD 7000 series for the next generation

AMD will soon launch the first graphics cards in the Radeon 200 series, which will cover everything from entry-level models to the flagship Radeon R9 290X. This means a total update of the existing range and the end of the almost two-year-old Radeon HD 7000 series.

For SweClockers, AMD’s product manager Devon Nekechuk tells that the graphics cards in the Radeon HD 7000 series are stopped production. At the same time, AMD is working with distributors and resellers to lower the prices of the soon-to-be-replaced series to enable a rapid transition to the next generation.

The effects of this are already visible at Swedish retailers. Among other things, the current flagship Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition has fallen down a price point of around SEK 3,000 including VAT for just over a month ago. However, Nekechuk promises even lower prices in connection with new campaigns.

Deliveries of the first graphics cards in the Radeon 200 series will begin in October, including a special edition of the Radeon R9 290X with the included Battlefield 4, which can be pre-booked from 3 October.
