Before the launch of the Polaris architecture, AMD released a final graphics card featuring the HBM-equipped circuit Fiji, which first found its way into the Radeon R9 Fury X, R9 Fury and R9 Nano. The model was named Radeon Pro Duo with dual circuits Fiji, whose target audience was content creators and developers of virtual reality (VR).

Now AMD is releasing a sequel with the same name. This time it’s a dual Polaris 20 for a total of 4,608 stream processors and a computing power of 11.45 TFLOPS. This means a clock frequency of just over 1,240 MHz, compared to 1,340 MHz for the newly launched Radeon RX 580 with the same graphics circuit.
In terms of performance, the graphics card on paper is well below the original Pro Duo (16.38 TFLOPS), but at the same time the power consumption also drops from 350 to 250 W. An effect of this is that the new Pro Duo gets a traditional cooler with heat sink, hood and fan , instead of closed water cooling.
Another thing that takes a step back is the memory bandwidth, which is 224 GB / s per graphics circuit instead of 512 GB / s. However, the memory capacity of the new Pro Duo quadruples, where each graphics circuit has 16 GB GDDR5 instead of only 4 GB HBM with the original model.
Furthermore, the Radeon Pro Duo has an HDMI 2.0 and three full-size Displayport 1.4, which can be used to connect the graphics card to an 8K-resolution screen. To drive the 60 Hz resolution, however, two Displayports are required, while one alone only provides a refresh rate of 30 Hz.
According to AMD, the newcomer is twice as fast as the Radeon Pro WX 7100, which houses a single graphics circuit. The new Radeon Pro Duo will be launched at the end of May for 999 dollars, corresponding to approximately 11,000 kronor including VAT. The target group is like other graphics cards in the Radeon Pro series workstations and with the card comes support 24 hours a day.
