AMD lowers prices on Radeon HD 7900, 7800 series

After the summer’s silence, it’s hot once again between AMD and Nvidia in the graphics card market. A couple of days ago, the green team introduced the Geforce GTX 660 Ti, a model that mainly competes against the Radeon HD 7950. Now AMD is countering by lowering the target prices for this graphics card and three mid-range models in the HD 7800 series.

First of all, the price of the Radeon HD 7950 3 GB is reduced from 349 to 319 dollars, which should be able to be translated into a couple of hundred bucks in Swedish stores. At the same time, the Radeon HD 7870 2 GB Gigahertz Edition drops from $ 299 to $ 249.

In addition, two variants of the Radeon HD 7850 will be cheaper. Graphics cards with 2 GB of memory step down from 249 to 209 dollars. Those who settle for 1 GB of video memory can look forward to a price reduction from 229 to 189 dollars.

As usual, it is difficult to predict exactly what the new target prices will have for the impact on pricing at Swedish retailers. According to sources to SweClockers, however, models from AMD-exclusive manufacturers such as Sapphire and XFX are mainly affected, which will fall in price by 8–17 percent within the next few days.
