AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 and RX Vega 64 celebrate one year

2017 became significant for AMD in many ways. Among other things, the company launched its new processor family Ryzen, which meant that for the first time in many years they could compete with Intel again on the market. Something that was also talked about a lot was the next graphics card architecture from AMD, which was named Vega and would be the company’s return to the graphics card market as well.

► SweClocker’s test of AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 and RX Vega 56

Today, August 14, it is exactly one year since AMD introduced Vega with the two graphics cards Radeon RX Vega 56 and RX Vega 64. The models introduced many new features, the most talked about being the second generation HBM memory that brought benefits such as better energy efficiency compared to GDDR5.

Of course, both models took place in SweClocker’s test lab, where it was up to proof in both games and synthetic tests. Compared to its predecessors in the Radeon RX 400 and RX 500 series, major improvements were noticed and the graphics cards managed to keep pace with the competitor Nvidia in many game titles.

In terms of ratings, only the cheaper Radeon RX Vega 56 was awarded an award from SweClockers, where it was praised for its excellent performance for the price range. Among the more negative aspects were the radiator solution and the high power consumption, problems that were remedied somewhat with the introduction of models from partner manufacturers.
