AMD releases Radeon Software 16.1.1 Hotfix for Rise of the Tomb Raider

After a few months of Xbox One exclusivity, Rise of the Tomb Raider for PC / Windows was released at the end of January. Something that quickly attracted attention was that Nvidia was quick to come up with optimized drivers, unlike AMD who took the time to give the game the same treatment.

Now AMD releases Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.1.1 Hotfix for the game title and just better performance is highlighted as the big news, along with a profile for Crossfire. SweClockers therefore takes the opportunity to supplement previous results with the new driver.

The editors’ previous values are taken from SweClocker’s winter computer, whose Intel Core i5-6600K is accompanied by either a Geforce GTX 970 or Radeon R9 390. The result was that AMD lost ground in the lower resolutions while they could keep up with 4K UHD, however with equally low and almost unplayable frame rate.

With AMD’s optimized driver, no world-changing differences are noticeable. On the whole, it is about a single frame plus or minus, with the exception of low-setting settings in 1080p where differences beyond the margin of error are noted.

In terms of rendering times, there is also no major difference, but is more or less the same as with older drivers. In other words, it is a subjectively good flow with a good experience regardless of configuration, where, however, AMD pulls the longest straw by a negligible margin.
