AMD responds to Nvidia’s initiative Geforce Partner Program

The controversy has taken turns over Nvidia’s controversial launch of the Geforce Partner Program (GPP). Some companies have jumped on the bandwagon, while HP and Dell, among others, have chosen to stay out of the collaboration.

A statement can now be read on AMD’s website, signed Scott Herkelman at Radeon Technologies Group, which clarifies AMD’s position in the ongoing debate. Among other things, AMD directs some criticism at Nvidia and the company’s own technology solutions, for which players have to pay extra.

Over the coming weeks, you can expect to see our add-in board partners launch new brands that carry an AMD Radeon product. […] These brands will share the same values of openness, innovation, and inclusivity that most gamers take to heart. The freedom to tell others in the industry that they won’t be boxed in to choosing proprietary solutions that come bundled with “gamer taxes” just to enjoy great experiences they should rightfully have access to. The freedom to support a brand that actively works to advance the art and science of PC gaming while expanding its reach.

Herkelman also talks about what AMD Radeon’s values ​​are based on and highlights above all themes that concern open technology development and refers, among other things, to Khronos Group Vulkan, which was developed from AMD’s Mantle project. He also mentions the collaboration with SK Hynix regarding the new memory standards HBM and HBM2, which were later adopted by the standardization body JEDEC.

Representatives of Nvidia instead claim that the Geforce Partner Program is transparent and good for players. But the company has not answered questions about what partner manufacturers are involved or what the player base gets out of it all. Many believe that this is a way to completely eliminate competition in the market by locking in different partner manufacturers to their own brand.
