AMD will respond to NVIDIA Image Scaling. It will use Radeon Super Resolution for this

After NVIDIA announced the Image Scaling enhancement and making the technology available for all GPUs, AMD needs to respond somehow. It is to do this soon using the equally versatile Radeon Super Resolution technology. However, versatile not in terms of graphics cards, but games.

Once upon a time, when DLSS was the only real-time super-resolution technology for games, there was not so much turmoil in this market. Today, in turn, players have DLSS, FSR, Image Scaling and soon Radeon Super Resolution will join the three, as something between FSR and Image Scaling with an emphasis on supporting virtually all games.

According to information provided by Videocardz, the AMD RSR will be based on the FSR 1.0 algorithm and will run through the Radeon driver, which will limit its usability to AMD cards. Most importantly, it won’t need to be implemented at any point in the graphical pipeline, which usually prevents interface issues.

AMD has solved this problem at the driver level, which will provide direct access to the RSR, relieving the game developers from the need for in-game implementation. Finally, the RSR is to be announced in January 2022, be compatible with RDNA1 and RDA2 based GPU cards and support all games in full screen mode.
