American successor to Lt. Stinger. We know the most important dates of the new slayer of airplanes and helicopters

According to the latest information provided by The Drive, the US Army wants the successor of the Stinger in the form of a prototype to be tested as early as 2023. All this so that by 2027 at the latest, mass production and deliveries to the troops of this new manned anti-aircraft missile system will start.

The US Army confirmed in the latest RFI that the successor of the Lt. Stinger will be created

Such a move is caused both by the age of the current FIM-92 Stinger and the transfer of over 1,400 units to Ukraine. The pursuit of this has been going on for two years, and the latest Request For Information (RFI) from the US Army covers only the development of a new anti-aircraft missile. This will both replace the currently used Stingers and complement the AGM-114L Hellfire anti-tank missiles.

According to the tactical and technical requirements for these anti-aircraft missiles, they are to exceed the capabilities of the Stingers. The requirement is to equip them with proximity detonators, better quality detection, aiming and guidance equipment, and to be compatible with the SUVL launcher. In a more practical sense, this American successor to the Stinger is to have the ability to destroy helicopters, airplanes and UAVs of classes 2 and 3.
