Startup Wright revealed 2 megawatt electric motors for airplanes

There is one startup thanks to which in the future the world will probably be able to abandon the environmentally polluting means of air transport. I am talking about Wright (a reference to famous brothers, probably not accidental), i.e. a startup that has just shown its 2-megawatt electric motors for airplanes.

This is Wright and its big plans, and 2 megawatt electric motors for airplanes

Electric planes are currently too constrained by technology, according to many important personalities, both in the field of zero-emission transport and the aircraft themselves. They’re right about that, because they require heavy battery systems to function, which negatively affect their flight performance. That’s why Wright wants to solve this problem.

Upgrading electric and hybrid-electric propulsion systems from general aviation to larger aircraft applications requires much more powerful and lighter altitude-adapted electric motor technology.

Currently, the main obstacle to large electric passenger airliners is the fact that the extra power of the electric motors, which have to produce sufficient lift, makes the battery packs too heavy. This new 2-megawatt Wright engine is a step in the right direction as it generates 2,700 horsepower with a performance per kilogram ratio of 10 kW / kg.

This in turn is said to be a double improvement over existing megawatt motors in the industry today, making Wright’s creation much lighter than anything else. Now, while the company is working on the Wright 1 as a hybrid plane, it plans to test its 2 MW electric motor very soon, so that by 2030, with the help of funding from NASA and the US military, it will provide the world with an electric passenger plane with 186 seats and a range of up to 1,287 km.
