Intel’s new top of the range, the Core i9-12900KS, hit the market last week. And the overclockers were quick to take it to the limit to test its potential. Breaking several records in the process.
The Core i9-12900KS uses the best silicon from the 12900K to produce a special edition of the latter chip that reaches slightly higher frequencies: 5.5 GHz turbo and 3.4 GHz base.compared to the original’s 5.2 GHz turbo and 3.2 GHz base.
The performance increase offered by the Core i9-12900KS compared to the K version if we take into account its cost -about $800- is quite smallalthough we did find that the price is probably worth it for extreme overclockers.
Tom’s Hardware reported that the i9-12900KS already has a dedicated page on HWbot. The most striking fact is that TSAIK has managed to get the chip to reach 7,450.62 MHz using a physical core and liquid nitrogen (LN2) cooling.although it does not exceed the world record of 7.6 GHz achieved with a standard 12900K.
TSAIK is part of the MSI overclocking team; they used an MSI MEG Unify-X motherboard for overclocking. The company celebrated the feat by posting an image of this achievement along with the CPU and MOBO that were used.
Allen ‘Splave’ Golibersuch managed to capture some of the world records and global tops with the 12900KS.
Although it is early to talk about records, since the 12900KS has just been released. There is still time for overclockers to play with this new CPU and get the most out of it.
