MB&F has indeed presented a truly cosmic product that has little to do with the classic approach on the market. The (unusual) HM9 watch may not be the best accessory for a suit… but it is definitely something that will attract everyone’s attention.
Yes, it is really a watch, but it has nothing special about it, except for innovative, top-shelf movements. When creating the HM9, the designers drew on old racing cars from the mid-20th century, which provided the watch not only with a unique look, but also some value for fans of the local automotive industry. As this is not the first such prank by MB&F, we can easily find similarities with the No. 4 Thunderbolt. We will find these at the very beginning of the offer, because they share a damn high price – $ 182,000.
However, such an amount did not come out of nowhere, because HM9 can be easily called a work of applied art. Aside from the process of designing and fine-tuning the movement technology, it’s enough to mention the 43-piece housing made of 57mm Grade 5 titanium with both satin and glossy polished finishes. Not only did this ensure the strength of a spaceship’s hull, but also a unique appearance, complemented by five sapphire crystals on the dial. The hand-sewn strap with titanium buckle itself also boasts impeccable calfskin quality.
At the heart of the watch, however, is something much more interesting, namely a hand-wound 44 jewel movement consisting of 301 elements. This splits into two independent balance wheels on separate lifts that overcome the planetary difference and eliminate any resonance. If you know what I am talking about, then I pay tribute to you, but if not, don’t worry – you are not alone. However, I am convinced that the advancement of this mechanism is simply to provide the user with uninterrupted work. Maybe it also eliminates the requirement to use a rotomat?
