Asrock unveils first Radeon VII with stickers from partner manufacturers

During CES 2019, AMD took the big stage for the first time with its own press conference, where they unveiled several new products and talked about their plans for the coming year. One of the most notable innovations was the Radeon VII, the company’s new graphics card equipped with the Vega 20 circuit, which is manufactured using 7-nanometer technology.

Shortly after the unveiling, it was clear that the model would be sold both by AMD itself and via the company’s partner manufacturers, but the latter are not equipped with tailor-made cooling solutions or in-house developed circuit boards. Now Asrock unveils its model in the Phantom Gaming series, which is identical to AMD’s own apart from a sticker on each fan.

Otherwise, the specifications are the same, with a 4,096-bit memory bus paired with 16 GB of HBM2 memory, which runs at an efficient clock frequency of 2,000 MHz. This means a bandwidth of 1 TB / s, which is higher than all previous models from both AMD and Nvidia.

The power consumption for the graphics card is expected to be around 300 W and for cooling three axial fans are used, which for the sake of rarity are also semi-passive and are switched off at low load.

According to AMD, the model will compete with Nvidia’s Geforce RTX 2080 and therefore ends up at the same recommended price of USD 699, corresponding to SEK 7,900. The launch will take place on 7 February.
