Asus Geforce GTX 980 Ti Strix with the cooler DirectCU III on the way to Swedish stores

Most graphics card manufacturers have a cooling family they profile themselves with and from Asus it is DirectCU. During Computex, the component giant showed off a new version of their flagship and now the first graphics card with the cooling solution is on its way to Swedish stores.

The model in question is the Asus Geforce GTX 980 Ti Strix, where the Strix, just as before, involves semi-passive cooling. This means that the graphics card’s three 100 mm fans stand still when the graphics processor is below 65 degrees, which applies without load and in very easy-to-operate games, provided that there is plenty of ventilation in the chassis.

In addition to the fans, the cooling solution DirectCU III has five heat conduction pipes, of which two extra thick “mega heatpipes” with a diameter of 10 millimeters. The whole package takes up two slots. For the circuit board itself, there is lavish voltage regulation with 14 phases and extra power is delivered via two 8-pin PCI Express. Of course, Asus also follows the trend with a baking tray.

Asus is focusing on the lavish cooling solution with factory overclocking, where two modes are offered. This one gives 1,190 and 1,219 MHz at base and boost respectively, while the other OC mode increases this a bit to 1,216 and 1,317 MHz. The graphics card’s 6 GB GDDR5 memory is at 7,200 MHz.

The Asus Geforce GTX 980 Ti Strix will appear in Swedish stores next week and is already listed for SEK 7,990–8,490 including VAT.
